Mr.Mervin Mayers was enlisted in the Barbados Fire Service on January 15, 1986. He spent three years in operations before being transferred to the Administrative Section of the service where he spent nine years functioning as a clerical officer. He has an extensive training portfolio and has been the officer in charge of the Training and Development Unit, now the Barbados Fire Academy and the Fire Prevention Unit. He was promoted to Leading Fire Officer in 1997, Sub Officer in 2005 and promoted to the post of Station Officer in 2012.
