Fire Prevention & Code Enforcement Unit

Excellence Through Service

The Barbados Fire Service and Code Enforcement Unit was established in 2008 under the name Fire Prevention and Community Relations Unit with a view that it would evolve into a fully functional Fire Prevention , Code Enforcement and Fire Investigation Bureau.
During the first six years of tis existence, the main focus was on public education and developing safety awareness within the various communities.

This effort manifested itself through approximately seven programmes over the six years.
* Fire Victims After Care Programme.
* Fighting Fire with Fire Protection.
* Operation Escape Bridgetown.
* Children Homes and Elderly Care Facility (CHEF) Programe.
* Schools Awareness Fire Education (SAFE) Programme.
* Smoke Alarm Programme.

In addition to the above-mentioned programmes, the Unit participated in numerous career showcases and conducted assessments, lectures and evacuation drills for various groupings within the community.
While the service as a whole spearheaded the Code Enforcement mandate, this Unit played a very small role.

The importance of code enforcement to public safety cannot be overstated. If the various safety codes are not enforced and adhered to, the public and those who work and occupy our various institutions will be at risk.

It is therefore essential that this Unit refocus on its original Vision and play a greater role in code enforcement.
It was during the rebranding in January 2015 of the Unit, that the name was changed to "Fire Prevention and Code Enforcement Unit" (FPCEU).
